Be a Hero—Become an Adoptive Family

Qualifications to become adoptive parents through the Alexandria Family Services Division.

Prospective parents must:

bullet Accept a child for the child’s own sake without expecting the child to resolve family problems or to fulfill family ambitions.
bullet Love and nurture a child born to someone else.
bullet Be at least 25 years old (one parent)
bullet Complete the home study process.
bullet Written assessment of motivation to adopt, family background and relationships, parenting skills, financial information, home and community and marital stability and satisfaction.
bullet Mandatory criminal and Child Protective Services background checks.
bullet Five references.
bullet Full medical evaluation, including TB test and bl

Cost - None for placement of children in the custody of the agency.
