Getting Help and Services for Families
bullet Raising children is a wonderful experience, but it can also be stressful.
bullet When other stresses are added to the mix(financial difficulties, marital difficulties, single parenthood, etc.). Parents can be stretched beyond their limits to cope.
bullet When drug and alcohol abuseand/or mental illness is added to the mix, the situation can become dangerous for children.
bullet Alexandria's Department of Human Services can help.
Child Protective Services
bullet Available 24 hours a day to assess reports of child abuse and neglect, determine the risks, and, if a case is founded, to help families take steps to resolve their problems.
bullet Call 703 838 0800 - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Family Treatment Services
bullet Family Treatment (703-838-0800) provides social services to families where children are at-risk of abuse, neglect or abandonment.

Child Care Services
bullet The Office for Early Childhood Development (OECD) (703-838-0750) develops child care resources provides referral information on the availability of child care.
Information and Referral
  Provides assistance (703-838-0900) to residents who need help in locating particular public and non- profit human service providers.
