Foster Care Resources

Foster Care helps a child who needs care for a temporary or extended time in a licensed household.

Qualifications for Foster Parents

bullet

Reside within Virginia.

bullet

Prove financial stability.

bullet

Be at least 25 years old (one parent).

bullet

Attend 28 hours of pre-service training on the basic competencies to foster-parent.

bullet

Complete the home study.

bullet

Written assessment of motivation to foster, family background and relationships, parenting skills, home and community, financial information.

bullet

Mandatory criminal and Child Protective Services background checks.

bullet

Three references.

bullet

Medical evaluation and TB test

bullet

Attend Monthly in-service training on various subjects.

bullet

Have a placement evaluation.
